An Independent Investigator of Fraud and Abuse
The OEIG acts as an independent agency of government whose function is to investigate fraud and abuse in state government. Specifically, the Executive Inspector General receives and investigates complaints of violations of the Ethics Act and any violation of any law, rule, regulation or abuse of authority or other forms of misconduct by the Treasurer, the appointees and employees of the Office.Confidential Investigations
In conducting inquiries, the OEIG works to gather and review evidence related to the investigation utilizing appropriate methodology including relevant document review, interviews and subpoena. By statute, all OEIG investigations are confidential. The identity of the person making the complaint, the results of the investigation - any recommendation made as a finding of the OEIG investigation - cannot be disclosed except as provided by law.Reporting of Findings
The Executive Inspector General reports any findings to the Treasurer and recommends measures to prevent future occurrence of the investigated instances of fraud, abuse or misconduct. The Executive Inspector General may refer investigative findings to the state Executive Ethics Commission or to the appropriate prosecuting attorney.Annual Ethics Training
The Ethics Act requires that every State employee complete an annual course in ethics training. The OEIG, in conjunction with the agency's Ethics Officer, provides this training to the employees of the Treasurer. The training is intended to provide an educational resource to employees regarding ethics and integrity issues that they may face while performing their work duties on behalf of the Treasurer.Monthly Investigation Reports
